Motofix upskills workforce with ecademy

Motofix Group is extending its partnership with Thatcham Research to provide access to ecademy for all its 200-plus workforce for the next three years.

ecademy is Thatcham Research’s online learning management system. Included within the package is content addressing key EV competences as well personalised assessment tools and learning plans.

Motofix had already provided its apprentices with access to Thatcham Research’s blended learning programmes though the Automotive Academy, but this extension is intended to safeguard the skills of safety of its entire workforce.

Motofix chairman, Richard Tutt said: “ecademy is the perfect solution for developing the technical knowledge and awareness of changing vehicle technology. This is essential for all our site teams, especially around ADAS and HEV, whether they are technicians or non-technical members of the team and we are delighted to be working with Thatcham Research on this new learning opportunity.

“The ecademy virtual training solution provides a significant financial benefit for Motofix, not only in terms of driving travel and accommodation cost-savings but also because our teams can remain on location and blend their learning with their day-to-day business responsibilities.”

Dean Lander, head of repair sector services, Thatcham Research, said: “The guiding principle of ensuring safe and efficient vehicle repair is very much at the heart of both businesses. As such, we are proud to expand our relationship with Motofix, an organisation that prioritises professional growth not only for skilled technicians but also the wider business, ensuring that all staff have easy access to knowledge development tools and can stay in touch with ever-evolving vehicle repair dynamics.”

Fix appoints first franchisee in Northern Ireland

After almost 16 years, Fix Auto UK has a presence in Northern Ireland with the appointment of Fix Auto Lagan Side.

Greer Gardiner who runs the family-owned business in County Down, is the first in the region to officially join the network, ensuring that for the first time since the Fix Auto concept was brought from Canada to Britain in 2005, the network can be truly viewed as a complete, fully branded, UK-wide operation.

The business, which is currently known as Bodyworxni, is just 20 miles from the centre of Belfast and will operate as Fix Auto Lagan Side.

“This is another exciting milestone for the business,” said Ian Pugh, Fix Auto UK’s Managing Director. “Thanks to Greer and his team who have totally embraced what Fix Auto UK brings to a business, we will now officially have a fully branded repair centre in Northern Ireland and that makes me extremely happy. Being able to expand our footprint into North Ireland and have a clear presence there starts a whole new and exciting chapter for us.”

Spanning more than two acres, the business consists of five separate workshops, three of which are used for collision repairs and include two spraybooths including one for high-sided LCVs. One of the units is used for MOT and mechanical repairs, the fifth houses a state-of-the-art alloy wheel refurbishment centre capable to repairing up to 800 wheels a month. Plans to develop a dedicated ADAS centre are also in the pipeline.

Greer added: “Knowing what I do now I still find it hard to believe we will be the first, fully branded, Fix Auto site in Northern Ireland and that makes me extremely proud.”
