Repairify updates calibration system

The asTech Digital ADAS Calibration System from Repairify has been updated this week to support the new Nissan Juke and Nissan Qashqai models.

The access will open new sales opportunities for repairers by retaining the work inhouse through the asTech Digital ADAS Calibration System to conduct jobs locally such as clearing fault codes, removing the need to outsource to a main dealership or third party, which, in turn, helps reduce key-to-key times.

Gareth Newbery, National Sales Manager, Repairify, said, “The addition of this data through the secure gateway benefits repairers by enabling them to offer new services to their customers who drive Nissan vehicles, while also reducing key-to-key times on jobs, as they do not have to outsource work.  For Repairify, it ensures we can continue to offer our customers, no matter their size, the safest, most reliable, and up-to-date ADAS repair solutions available on the market.”

EV supply could outstrip demand

Sales of EVs could slow following the government’s decision to delay the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030 to 2035, according to David Borland, EY UK & Ireland Automotive Lead.

Commenting after the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders reported a 21% year-on-year increase in registrations during September, he said the outlook for the automotive industry in the UK was positive.

The country overtook France to become the world’s eighth largest vehicle manufacturer, and signs are encouraging that this will continue with investments in plants in Somerset, Oxford, Swindon and Ellesmere Port.

However, David said: “The UK government’s decision to move the ICE sales ban from 2030 to 2035 was a significant and unexpected move. The shift in policy may have a negative impact on consumer demand for EVs in the short term, as well as potentially affecting demand from fleet operators as both groups work out what the changes mean for them.

“There is a risk that with OEMs, retailers and charge point operators all having invested significant capital in anticipation of a 2030 ICE sales ban, the policy shift could see supply outstripping demand.”

New car sales surge 21%

Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show that UK new car market grew for the 14th month in a row in September, up 21% to 272,610 registrations.

Sales to large fleets rose 40.8% to 143,256 units while private consumer demand grew 5.8% to 122,944 units.

Meanwhile, sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles were up 50.9%, hybrid electric vehicles were up 30.7% and battery electric vehicles recorded their 41st consecutive month of growth, rising 18.9% to 45,323 units.

Elsewhere, the new light commercial vehicle market grew for the ninth month in a row, up 28.1% with 44,760 vans, pickups and 4x4s joining UK roads.

Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said: “A bumper September means the new car market remains strong despite economic challenges. However, with tougher EV targets for manufacturers coming into force next year, we need to accelerate the transition, encouraging all motorists to make the switch.

“This means adding carrots to the stick – creating private purchase incentives aligned with business benefits, equalising on-street charging VAT with off-street domestic rates and mandating chargepoint rollout in line with how electric vehicle sales are now to be dictated. The forthcoming Autumn Statement is the perfect opportunity to create the conditions that will deliver the zero emission mobility essential to our shared net zero ambition.”
