Vehicle usage shows divide

Motor vehicle use in Great Britain increased month-on-month in August to an average figure of 101% per day according to Department of Transport data.

However, the data shows that weekends continue to be the peak periods of road transport usage with ‘all motor vehicle’ use averaging 110% during weekends, compared to 97% during weekdays.

Specifically, car usage stood at an average of 98% per day across the entire month, yet the weekday average stood at 94% in contrast to the weekend average of 107%.

Light commercial and HGV use showed a similar pattern with weekends outweighing weekdays by 21% and 20% respectively.

The data, which included August Bank Holiday (included in the weekday count above) saw motor vehicle use drop to 84% overall.
