Steer Automotive Group apprentice Miguel Harvey has won a Medallion of Excellence at WorldSkills Lyon 2024 while David McKeown from James McKeown Accident Repair Centre secured Bronze in Autobody Repair.
WorldSkills is known at the ‘skills Olympics’ with more than 1,500 young people from 69 countries competing over four days in a number of categories.
Representing Team GB, Miguel, from Steer Stratford-upon-Avon, earned his Medallion of Excellence in the car painting category.
The Medallion is only awarded to those who score above the international standard.
Steve Hoe, Head of Academy & Organisation Development, said at Steer Automotive, said, “It’s been such a privilege supporting all of Team UK, but a special mention goes to David McKeown, who picked up Bronze in Body Repair. Miguel and David became friends in WorldSkills UK squad and cheered each other on the whole way.”
Meanwhile, Skills Minister Jacqui Smith said, “As we close this incredible WorldSkills competition, I want to congratulate everyone involved. You’ve all showcased exceptional skill, dedication, and creativity, proving that the future is in capable hands.
“Everyone competing in WorldSkills has demonstrated their potential as future leaders and innovators. We want to support everyone across the country to access opportunity, no matter who they are or where they’re from.”
