Ben’s new fundraising challenge, Race Across Britain, has raised more than £100,000 for the automotive charity.
Inspired by the television series Race Across the World, the LKQ-sponsored challenge took place from 26-28 February and saw 27 teams of two travel from the LKQ Academy in Tamworth to six different checkpoints including the Angel of the North, Blackpool North Pier and The London Eye.
Teams had to complete the 1,300-mile journey without using smart phones or planes, travelling only public transport, cycling or walking, while also limited by a strict budget.
Taking part were teams from LKQ Euro Car Parts, Alliance Automotive Group, Group 1 Automotive, Vendi, ClickMechanic, Automotion Events/Lawgistics, eStar Truck and Van, Hella, Messe Frankfurt UK, Compact Car Centre, Walsall Wood Tyre & Service; Autotech Recruit, Rhino Group, and GSF Car Parts.
Joint winners were two LKQ Euro Car Parts, The Mavericks, comprising Tony Shearer and Andy Southby, and Chris O’Rourke and Melanie Lowe’s Skint Sprint Squad.
Matt Wigginton, Director of Partnerships, Engagement & Income said, “The automotive industry loves some healthy competition, so this was a great way to get together and have fun while also supporting your dedicated industry charity. Fundraising events like this are particularly crucial during a time when Ben is supporting more people than ever due to the cost-of-living crisis.”
Kevan Wooden, Group Chief Executive Officer at LKQ UK and Ireland, added, “It’s been remarkable to see so many colleagues from across the industry come together like this. Both customers and competitors alike have had fun, but more importantly, raised crucial funds for the vital work Ben does.”
