Businesses urged to prepare for National Insurance changes

With National Insurance (NI) thresholds set to change from 1 April, businesses across the UK are being encouraged to assess how the adjustments will impact their payroll costs. Employers and employees alike may see shifts in their contributions, making it essential to plan ahead.

To support businesses in navigating these changes, the National Body Repair Association (NBRA) has launched a National Insurance Calculator. This tool, available to both members and non-members, provides a quick and straightforward way to estimate current NI contributions and understand the financial impact of the upcoming reforms.

The changes come as part of wider government adjustments to tax and employment policies, which could have significant implications for payroll budgets. Employers are advised to take proactive steps to ensure compliance and manage their costs effectively.

Access the NBRA NI Calculator here.

While the calculator offers a useful estimate, it is intended as a guide only and does not constitute financial or legal advice. For the most accurate calculations, businesses are encouraged to seek professional guidance from an accountant or HMRC.

With just weeks until the changes take effect, now is the time for businesses to review their payroll strategies and take control of their costs.

Fix Auto UK celebrates 20 years of franchise partners

This week marked a major milestone for Fix Auto UK, as the network celebrates 20 years since its first franchise partner signed up to the pioneering concept of independent bodyshops working together under a single brand.

On 11 March 2005, the directors of Fix Auto Dagenham – Paul Cunningham, Neil Parker, and Chris Oliver – made industry history by committing to an untested model in the UK. Their decision set in motion the development of what is now one of the UK’s leading network of independent vehicle repairers.

Fix Auto UK now boasts 125 repairers working together, repairing more than 150,000 vehicles annually. The network’s commitment to quality and customer service is reflected in its 17,125 Trustpilot reviews, rating Fix Auto UK as ‘Excellent’.

2025 will also mark the 20th anniversaries of Fix Auto Loughborough, Fix Auto Bradford, Fix Auto Keighley, and Fix Auto Weston-super-Mare, with celebrations planned at the Fix Auto UK National Conference in May.

Reflecting on the journey, Group Managing Director Ian Pugh commented: “Our first franchise agreement with Fix Auto Dagenham laid the foundation for what has become the most dynamic and forward-thinking vehicle repair network in the UK. From that single acorn, a mighty oak has grown.”

Paul Cunningham, one of the original franchise partners, added: “Twenty years have flown by, and it feels like only yesterday we signed up to this ambitious concept. Today, Fix Auto UK is a family of award-winning, highly efficient businesses, and in many ways, we’re just getting started!”

NWVA makes new appointment to SVR team

Following the success of supporting Police forces across the country in recovering stolen vehicles, NWVA recently launched their dedicated Stolen Vehicle Recovery division – designed to alleviate pressure on the Police whilst expediting the speedy and safe return of stolen vehicles.

Joining the team in heading up ‘SVR’, is Phil Pentelow, who has 18 years’ experience working for Essex Police, the last five spent on the Stolen Vehicle Intelligence Unit (SVIU). This work included stolen vehicle examination, tracking and recovery.

Phil and Essex Police’s SVIU – one of the most successful vehicle crime units in the UK – worked very closely with LJ Transportation (part of the NWVA Group) in recent years in a bid to tackle the issue, managing to recover or identify over £40million worth of assets in the last 2 years alone.

Phil said, “I have enjoyed some great success in recovering millions of pounds worth of assets for Essex Police with the support of NWVA, so the opportunity to join the group with a view of continuing this work on a greater scale was a challenge I could not say no to!”

Vehicle theft is a UK-wide issue with around 60% of stolen vehicles remaining unrecovered – the vehicles that are often being subject to damage, found in the process of being dismantled or having their identity changed – all affecting the value of the asset. With over 110,000 vehicles stolen nationally in 2024 alone, there is a clear need for new and innovative approaches to tackle the problem.

Utilising NWVA’s extensive resources and 24hr network, SVR will offer a number of services to secure and recover assets in a timely manner – reducing the likelihood of the vehicle being used in further criminality, suffering damage, being dismantled or subject to identity change.

This will have a positive impact by placing less demand on the Police service, help reduce overall loss to insurers as well as importantly heightening the chances of victims of theft’s personal property still being within the vehicle – all whilst reducing wider risk on the roads.

Phil said, “The combination of resources available from NWVA both nationally and overseas, paired with the Policing experience and track record in this field within the leadership team means that SVR is uniquely placed to offer an exciting new response to vehicle theft.”

Silverlake champions low-cost routes into motorsports

Silverlake Automotive Recycling is supporting the British Racing and Sports Car Club [BRSCC] as title sponsor of the newly launched DS3 Cup, debuting in 2025 and offering a cost-effective entry point into club racing.

The Silverlake DS3 Cup is a one-make series featuring the Citroen DS3 1.6VTi.

In addition to title sponsorship, Silverlake is creating a ‘How To…’ video series, guiding competitors through every step of building their DS3 Cup race car – from buying the donor car to completing the build.

Silverlake is a longtime partner of the BRSCC and title sponsor of the C1 Racing Club series. It supports the motorsports sector with the nationwide supply of OEM reclaimed parts, quality-graded, warranty-assured and with full provenance history, while the Silverlake racing team also takes a selection of relevant reclaimed parts to race meetings where they are participating.

Allen Prebble, Managing Director at Silverlake said, “Silverlake is proud to support the BRSCC in their new venture in the DS3 Cup, to provide another cost-effective sprint racing option for competitors next season. Alongside our continued support and involvement with the C1 Endurance Series for 2025, collectively this shows that Silverlake and the BRSCC are aligned in providing a superb low-cost pathway to get new drivers into motorsport, and it’s a natural fit for us to be involved on all fronts.”

Paul McErlean, BRSCC added, “I’m delighted that Silverlake has chosen to support the new DS3 Cup alongside the Club for 2025 and beyond. This exciting new project is a big step forward, and having Allen and his team on board from the very start is a strong statement of intent. We’re looking forward to seeing the DS3 Cup grow into another successful BRSCC series, and Silverlake’s involvement will play a key role in making that happen.”
