Repair sector urged to act now to secure apprenticeship talents

As exam season nears, vehicle repair employers are being urged to act fast to secure the best young talent through apprenticeships before the summer rush.

According to Apprenticeship Central, a surge in student interest means businesses that recruit early will be best placed to attract high-quality candidates.

Eleanor Baker Barnes, Commercial Director at Apprenticeship Central, said: “We’re already seeing a significant number of candidates reach out to us to discuss apprenticeship routes, and decisions are being made now – employers who move early will have their pick of the very best candidates.”

Recent data shows that 41% of young people exploring post-school options are now considering apprenticeships. With interest peaking during the summer term, Apprenticeship Central sees this as a golden opportunity for employers to future-proof their workforce.

Apprenticeship Central states that ambitious, work-ready individuals want to earn while they learn and are ready to start building their careers, and is warning repairers not to wait until summer, by which time many top-tier candidates may already be placed.

Apprenticeship Central specialises in apprentice recruitment and retention across the vehicle repair sector. Their fully outsourced service takes on the legwork of hiring – from initial business consultation to a tailored recruitment campaign, screening, pre-employment programmes and final interviews.

Fix Auto UK expands south coast presence with acquisition of two new sites

Fix Auto UK has further strengthened its position with the acquisition of two new repair centres on the south coast.

The business has acquired the former AD Williams sites in Southampton and Lydd from the appointed administrators, a move that not only grows its portfolio of wholly owned locations to 13 repair centres, but also safeguards 24 skilled jobs within the industry.

The newly acquired sites will now operate as Fix Auto Southampton and Fix Auto Lydd, bringing a combined 27,000sqft of high-specification bodyshop space into the network. These additions strategically reinforce Fix Auto UK’s dominance in the southern region, complementing the existing footprint of 10 well-established centres stretching from Hastings to Penzance.

Fix Auto Southampton will continue under the experienced leadership of Rob Dace, while Fix Auto Lydd will be temporarily overseen by Andy Ramsey, current manager of Fix Auto Crawley, until a permanent appointment is made. The group’s portfolio of wholly and part-owned repair centres is overseen by Group Commercial Director Earle Avann.

Commenting on the acquisitions, Ian Pugh, Group Managing Director for the Advantage Group of Companies, said: “Fix Auto UK is already a well-established repairer along the south coast. These acquisitions further strengthen an area which is vital to us. I am delighted that we were able to move so swiftly and safeguard both businesses.”
