ARC360 & Stellantis partner for conference

ARC360 and Stellantis – a constellation of 14 iconic automotive brands and two mobility arms – have partnered for the forthcoming ARC360 ‘future tech’ themed conference.

Taking place on 27 June at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in Coventry, the event will canvass insights from across the sector and beyond in a bid to explore how the motor claims repair sector is transitioning towards a high-tech future.

The event will feature the Stellantis Zone – created to provide delegates with an immersive showcase of the vehicle manufacturers’ network operations, vehicles and technologies. Stellantis will also be taking to the stage during the event to provide more of an insight into its mission to transform into a sustainable mobility tech company, guided by the clear vision of its Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan – electric vehicles and various other advanced technologies being core to that.

Stellantis will also be hosting its national repair network meeting at the same venue the day before – Wednesday 26 June.

Alongside Stellantis, delegates will hear thoughts from insurers, other vehicle manufacturers, repairers and many others throughout the supply chain to understand more of how, when and why the sector should prepare for the future.

Underpinning the entire event will be a keen focus on what is arguably the most critical factor across the entire industry right now – people and skillsets. Throughout the day, discussions will link back to how the industry – as a combined entity – can help make the automotive incident repair sector a career destination of choice.

Paul Glover, Network Manager – Accident Repair Programme, Stellantis said, “We are looking forward to working with the team at ARC360 to make this an unmissable event for our own repair network, and the wider industry, in 2024. It’s vital that we share ideas, technology, and best practice to ensure that we stay ahead in such a competitive and changing marketplace.”

Mark Hadaway, Co-Founder of ARC360 and Content Director of ILC, said, “Partnering with Stellantis for the 2024 ARC360 conference is a major breakthrough – supporting the industry in coming together and helping share truly valuable insights as the sector continues its technological transition. Having all the key sector stakeholders present and openly sharing experiences and insights is the very essence of ARC360’s remit – ‘gaining ground together’.”

Vehicle sales maintain strong momentum

The new car market rose 10.4% last month to 317,786 registrations, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

This completed the 20th consecutive month of growth, although sales figures are still 30.6% down on pre-pandemic levels.

Petrol vehicles continued to dominate the market, accounting for 55.7% of all new registrations, while diesels made up 7.3% of all sales.

Meanwhile, 44,550 hybrids were sold in March, representing a rise of 19.6%, while plug-in hybrid sales surged by more than a third to 24,517, and pure electrics rose by 3.8%.

The light commercial market also enjoyed a strong sales month, with 52,916 new registrations equating to an 11.1% spike.

Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said, “Market growth continues, fuelled by fleets investing after two tough years of constrained supply. A sluggish private market and shrinking EV market share, however, shows the challenge ahead. Manufacturers are providing compelling offers, but they can’t single-handedly fund the transition indefinitely. Government support for private consumers – not just business and fleets – would send a positive message and deliver a faster, fairer transition on time and on target.”

Car and CV production enjoys healthy growth

UK car production rose for the sixth month in a row in February, up 14.6% to 79,907 units.

This made it the best performing February since 2021, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

Production for the domestic market was up 58% to 20,658 units and production for export rose 4.6% to 59,249, while production of electrified vehicles (29,038 units) accounted for 36.3% of all output.

Year-to-date production is up 17.8% to 162,904 units, making it the best start to the year for three years.

Meanwhile, UK commercial vehicle production almost doubled during the month to 12,927 units.

Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said: “Another month of growth for UK car production is welcome news, reflecting strong demand at home and around the world for the latest British-built cars. The industry is transitioning from internal combustion engine cars to electrified vehicles, building on the massive investment commitments made last year. The UK industry faces stiff competition, however, as global competitors seek to secure new models and technologies so a commitment to our industrial competitiveness, from all political parties in this likely election year, must be maintained.”

Some insurers still undervaluing cars

The FCA has found that some insurers are still undervaluing cars when it comes to settlements.

Despite issuing previous warnings against the practice, an FCA review has found that certain insurers continue to offer customers less than their car is worth after it has been written off or stolen.

It is now engaging with those to insurers to ensure they improve in line with Consumer Duty regulations.

Sheldon Mills, Executive Director, Consumers and Competition at the FCA, said, “Having your vehicle written off or stolen can be intensely stressful and we expect firms to offer the right support to help their customers. We expect all motor insurers to take note of our findings and we are engaging directly with those that have issues that need to be addressed.”

Ben Ball tickets now available

Automotive charity Ben has announced that tickets are now available for its annual industry celebration, the Ben Ball.

Taking place at Old Billingsgate Market on 11 December and supported by Auto Trader, the theme for this year’s event is the roaring 20s.

Matt Wigginton, Director of Partnerships, Engagement & Income at Ben, said, “We’re inviting our automotive family to join us at Ben Ball 2024 which is set to be another fantastic evening of celebration and entertainment. This year, we’re excited to be stepping back into the iconic era of the 1920s so you can expect a night to remember, full of style and sophistication.

“We continue to support a record number of automotive people due to the cost-of-living crisis which is having a big impact on their health and wellbeing. Ben Ball is a critical fundraising event as it brings in vital donations to change lives and support those who are struggling, while also enabling us to recognise those who have helped us achieve so much during the year.”

Ian Plummer, Auto Trader’s Commercial Director, added, “Once again it’s a huge privilege to be sponsoring the Ball, which not only raises critical funds for those who are most in need of help, but also drives awareness of the incredible work Ben does day in day out. It’s humbling to see so many businesses and individuals from across the industry come together every year, to dig deep, and to support such a vital charity which provides invaluable services to so many of our industry colleagues and friends.”
