Government announces taskforce to tackle spiralling insurance costs

Industry bodies have questioned the government’s decision to include representatives of the insurance sector on a taskforce established to tackle soaring premiums. The government taskforce, established to identify the reason for rising insurance and deliver fairer outcomes for drivers, comprises insurers and the Association of British Insurers, with some suggesting this will sway any outcomes. With over 700,000 insurance claims every year in Denmark running through F&Ps proprietary claims management platform, the integration of Solera’s Sustainable Estimatics API will allow every insurer in the country to track and offset the carbon emissions created through different processes in a vehicle’s life span – including Scope 3.

This move sets a new standard, covering 100% of auto claims and aligning with Denmark’s leading commitment to sustainability goals to be carbon neutral by 2050.

Volumes down again in September – Trend Tracker

The latest Trend Tracker monthly report has revealed that repair volumes in September were six per cent down on the same month last year and 11% below 2019 levels.

Although slightly up on August volumes, there were still more than 8,000 fewer repair jobs carried out in the month compared to 12 months ago.

Possible contributing factors, which will be examined further in the upcoming Annual Trend Tracker report, include higher excesses reducing low damage claims, an older car parc which has a lower frequency statistically, and the impact of lower car sales in previous years playing through.

The report also suggested that higher total loss ratios have negatively impacted repair claims volumes, as well an increasing number of BEV’s in the UK car par, which are written off at a younger age than ICE models.

Meanwhile, the report found that repair costs increased during the month at a rate higher than inflation, while capacity was up as a result of a combination of factors. These include cycle times improving to their best rate in three years, a number of industry acquisitions through the year as well as new sites and expansions.

Eurorepar expands Stellantis parts range

Eurorepar has extended its range of bumpers and grilles to include 66 front wings for popular models across the Stellantis passenger car and commercial vehicle brands.

The expansion brings the total of number of Eurorepar Body Parts available to 220.

The Eurorepar range of front wings is designed to meet the needs of a market where cost control is a key customer expectation. It helps to maintain the fleet of older vehicles by controlling repair costs, and also meets the economic criteria required by insurance companies.

The products, which are on average 42% cheaper than OE parts, come with a minimum two-year warranty and are available to order via Audatex, GT Estimate & PartsLink24.

DVLA data reveals that over 300 drivers have been caught drink driving at least four times

Potholes cause half a million breakdowns so far in 2024

The AA has attended almost half a million pothole-related breakdowns in the first nine months of 2024 – and Britain’s crumbling road epidemic is set to worsen as a result of the heavy rainfall over recent weeks. Tesla unveils longest-range model

Tesla has enhanced its Model 3 line-up with its longest-range option to date. The gap between average repair costs for Teslas and other electric vehicles has closed dramatically in the last five years.

This is according to insights by Tim Hunt, Senior Engineer at Activate Group Limited, which have been shared by Gecko.

Breaking it down to models, Gecko data revealed that average costs for the Model X this year are £4,561, for the Model-S they are £4,381, for the Model-Y they are £3,703, and for the Model-3 they are £3,499.

Tim said, “Electric vehicles are still a fairly new technology and Tesla were one of the first major players to hit the market. Now all the major manufacturers have a strong line up of electric vehicles to compete with their ICE options. This is giving far more competition in this market which is driving down costs but also increasing knowledge in the repair industry.”

The one significant point of difference between Telsa repairs and those for other EVs is that labour costs exceed parts costs. But this too shows signs of changing.

Tim continued, “For the past few years there have been capacity issues in the repair industry, so the repair sites did not need to invest in the technology and training to repair these types of vehicles. In the last year, we have seen volumes of repairs fall by around 10% across the board. Add this to the increase in EVs on the road, the repairers have now invested in this market to ensure they can repair the volumes they require.

“Also in the last year, Tesla have been more open to non-Tesla approved bodyshops repairing their vehicles. Parts and also, more importantly, manufacturer repair methods have become more available to the open market. This gives further competition in the repair market and drives down repair costs when repairing Tesla vehicles.

“The combination of these factors is bringing Tesla in line with the rest of the market. This trend is likely to continue as newer manufacturers of electric vehicles, like BYD, gain a greater market share of vehicles being sold.”

Fix Auto UK welcomes Leighton Coachwork to network

Leighton Coachworks has joined the Fix Auto UK network to take the business to another level.

After nearly four decades as operating as Leighton Coachworks, the Bedfordshire-based repair centre has now transitioned into Fix Auto Leighton Buzzard and in doing so, further strengthens the organisation’s proposition in the region.

Formed by the late Jeremy Holt and his wife Valerie during the 1980’s, the 6,500 sqft repair centre, which has a rich history in serving insurance companies, is now overseen by Val and General Manager Paul Muckleston.

A team of 12 ensures a repair capacity of 125 vehicles a month.

Paul said, “The business has stood alone serving the insurance sector for many years but we’ve made a move to join the Fix Auto Franchise in order to safeguard our future. The team has an enviable reputation for repairing cars to the highest specification, as efficiently as possible and our circumstances have allowed us to, once again, level up the business. With this change we’ll be fulfilling our true potential with access to the unique and valuable business practice of sharing best practice, that comes with joining the Fix Auto UK network.”
