Mobile servicing could ease EV workload

Fleet Assist believes that EVs could impact the aftermarket with many repairers turning to mobile services, particularly when it comes to EVs.

The company now has more than 400 mobile units on its network, ensuring it’s able to deliver a nationwide service. It says many of these are EV-ready and its findings suggest that servicing an EV is actually cheaper and quicker than ICE equivalents because of fewer parts and less wear on tyres and brakes.

Vincent said, “It’s important for all leasing and rental fleets to be aware of the challenges faced by garages and some of the new initiatives likely to be forthcoming that will ensure both industries continue to work in harmony. Potentially in the longer term, EVs will cause excess capacity within the UK garage network with more companies chasing less work so it is not simply a case of putting up labour rates. If they do, they risk overpricing themselves and reducing their workshop volumes.

“We maintain that both garages and OEMs should consider adopting a smart approach to meeting customer driver expectations that require a focus on service delivery. The landscape forming where garages look to increase fees to address a shortfall in aftersales revenues risk being left behind in the longer term.”
