Steer Group hosted its final repair and refinishing Apprentice Skills competition last week at EMTEC Colleges and 3M.
Apprentices took part in the competition ahead of their end-point assessments and in preparation for potentially taking part in the IMI World Skills.
The Apprentice Skills competition was introduced to raise standards, boost confidence, hone problem-solving abilities, and enhance planning and time management skills.
Judges included Andy Geary, LKQ, Chris Colton, 3M, Karl Smith, Stanners Equipment, Jim Swann, Steer Automotive Group, Kieron Woolgar, Thatcham Research, Michael Massey, 3M, Paris Asquith, Steer Automotive Group, Robert Smith, Axalta, and Satpal Thamu, Emtec College, with the overall winner to be announced next month.
Head of Academy and Organisation Development Steve Hoe said, “Everyone involved with the competition noted the apprentices’ outstanding attitudes and their demonstration of high-level skills, making the scoring incredibly tight. All our apprentices gained valuable insights, with experienced judges providing feedback after every task. We were very pleased with how it went and can’t wait to do it all over again.”
